After ten years, 176 Million copies, and enough updates to choke a creeper, Minecraft still captures so many. How can so many people play a game so old with such…. “bland” graphics? It’s no Skyrim, it’s not a Resident Evil, and yet somehow, everything comes together in such a way… that we still find it to be art. Art is expression, emotion, compassion, and Minecraft has it in spades. While the default look is great in itself, add a decent 64×64, optifine, and a shader, and you have a game with art capable of drawing a tear.
Today we’re going over a few pictures from Lulu’s home in the forests. She’s worked very hard to work with the landscape, and not mar the natural beauty of it. She’s isolated herself to a small cove to do her builds, leaving the natural beauty untouched. And yet, her small home fits in so adorably.
Here we see the night setting in, the forest is dark, calm, alluring. You just want to fly through the canopy, run through the grass, sail through the magical trees. You can almost feel the wind on your face, the dew on your legs, and smell the soft loam underfoot.
Night has fallen, strangling the world is bitter cold and terrifying darkness. One can feel safe among the trees, knowing they protect, and yet also never feel they are not being followed. But the soft squish of grass would alert you were that the case.
A clearing offers a view of a lit up night sky, providing a look into the heavens which surround us. So much unknown up there, and yet so much here as well. You feel insignificant, and alone. You are but a piece of cosmic dust to the world, and yet you mean so much to so many… Life is truly a precious gift.
Dawn breaks, filtering the first rays of life giving warmth and light. The fearsome night is ending, if only you can make it home. The flowers begin to show their colors, a promise of life and forgiveness. Mother Nature will not let you go so easily, and while she may be cruel, she is also so very loving. Her gifts of color awaken us all.
Daylight. Vibrant greens, harsh browns and jubilant splashes of color meet your eyes. A pale blue sea of sky greets you. Birds call out to one another, saying they have made it through yet another night of terror. The zombies and skeletons burn off, the spiders retreat, and even the creepers have returned to their caves. You can relax, and yet, you never felt stressed through the night. The world is yours. Mine. OURS. As long as we respect it, it shall respect us.
Lulu’s home on the cove. Small, yet spacious. Everything she needs is right here. She has learned to only take the space she needs, fit what she wants to the space she has, and she embodies the true nature of someone who does not simply take from the land, but also gives back to it. The ocean brings her gifts with the tides. The forest brings her soft winds, gentle sounds, and peace of mind. The sands give her an easy footing. She is at home, as we all should be. We can take many lessons from her ways.
I thank Lulu very much for allowing me to walk her home, and more importantly her forest. It was a relaxing trip and gave me much reflection. I felt very comfortable, and safe, and yet had that pleasant chill of what may lie behind each tree. If you wish to have me walk your claim and write a story on it with pictures, let me know on discord or in game. I love doing these pieces. They let my brain spin down softly and rest, creating and designing.
